Starring Olympic role for our Racing Lab

Although our racing season was ended last Thursday, I will not stop writing this blog during our summer break. Apart from racing, it's great to have the chance to discuss more on other popular topics, and they surely include the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the Olympic equestrian events.

These historical events are now less than a month away and the Club's Racing Laboratory will be playing a crucial role, as it will have responsibility for the testing of all horses participating in the Olympic and Paralympic equestrian events in Hong Kong.

Our lab colleagues will work on weekends and 24 hours a day if necessary and we aim to process tests for negative and positive results within an average of seven and 12 days respectively, compared to 17-21 days for positive samples in the 2004 Athens Olympics.  It will be the first time the equestrian competition has enjoyed the benefit of an on-site testing facility and to have the testing results available faster than ever before.

Our Racing Laboratory is recognised as one of the leaders in its field worldwide and its regular, season-round efforts in providing efficient and reliable laboratory test services for our racing industry, also serves as an extremely important factor in establishing Hong Kong's reputation for fairness and integrity in its racing. With the Racing Laboratory never made a single false positive test report in its 38 years of history, I'm sure that our colleagues will rise to this important task for the Olympic equestrian event in the next two months.

While we have this first-class facility in supporting our event, I believe your participations are equally important. Although I'm not in Hong Kong at this moment, I still learn from some news reports saying the ticket sale of our Olympic equestrian programmes is quite good. It's truly a great news and I'm delighted to see local public for giving so much support to this historical event.
