Showdown in Dubai

Hi all, I've just finished my breakfast here in Dubai, but I can't wait to see our Hong Kong horses performing their bests in the Dubai World Cup race day at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse tonight.

From the time when our top miler Fairy King Prawn sadly suffered a narrow defeat to French runner Jim And Tonic in the Dubai Duty Free in 2001, to the date when we achieved our maiden success in Dubai with Vengeance Of Rain's amazing victory in the Dubai Sheema Classic last year, there have been about a dozen of Hong Kong-based horses travelled here in the past decade, to try seeking for glory at this desert track.

Again, four quality Hong Kong runners will engage in this premier racing carnival this year. We will simulcast three exciting races to all racing fans in Hong Kong, so you all could offer your betting support to these horses tonight. Among our runners, Dubai Sheema Classic contender Viva Pataca will surely represent the best hope for the Hong Kong team. Though he has drawn wide and set to start this 2,400m race in Gate 12, I still hope the horse to giving a back-to-back victory for Hong Kong after Vengeance Of Rain's success in the same race last year, and landing an overseas Group One winner for his trainer John Moore.

For Tony Cruz's duo Floral Pegasus and Bullish Luck in the Dubai Duty Free, it's Floral Pegasus which enjoyed a better luck in the first career start at the overseas, as he will start at Gate 3 in this race. The draw provides more flexibility for his jockey Gerald Mosse, who partnered with Jim and Tonic to win this race in 2001, to settle the horse in a handy position before giving a spurt at the home straight. But I think classy French filly Darjina will be his strongest opponent of all. As if she repeated the way she trounced European top miler Ramonti in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp last September, she would be hard for any other horses in the field to beat.

For Bullish Luck, I will be pleased if this veteran horse can overcome his of Gate 15 and finished in the first five. Sean Wood's dirt specialist Watch What Happens, gaining the advantage to start the race at Gate 2, might also have a good chance for a placing finish in the Group 2 Godolphin Mile.

So please stay tune to support our runners in Dubai, but don't forget we still have arranged 11 exciting races for you all at Sha Tin tomorrow. I'll check the Club's website and see if Gunner Mac and Galen Win have nice performances, as both horses finished close in their last runs, received good draws in the B+2 course and will team up with Douglas Whyte and Brett Prebble this time.
